Sinister is a 2012 supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson, and written by C. Robert Cargill. The film was released on October 12, 2012 and premiered at the SXSW festival.


True-crime writer, Ellison Oswalt has his family move into a new house which was the home of a murdered family. As Ellison intends the murders for his new book, and hopes that the research turns up for the fifth murdered family. Ellison finds a box in the attic, which contains a projector and stranded 8mm footage that contains home movies. As he notices a figure as he refers to a local professor, Jonas as he tells Ellison that the figure is a deity named Bughuul.
